About
Liu Chu-Ying / Jim Liu is an Assistant Professor in the College of Communication at National Chengchi University.He holds a PhD in Film Studies from the University of Southampton and has contributed to an award-winning work at an A-list international film festival.His long-standing work across Asian and international screen production informs how he approaches content, people and collaboration.
His work spans film and media research, teaching, directing, performance, popular music and audience culture. At its core is a shared concern: how people understand images, express ideas and create with others.
Alongside university teaching, he is open to academic exchange, visiting teaching, executive and organisational learning, speaking, workshops and selected content or creative advisory work.
Another part of the practice
Liu Chu-Ying is also the founder and creative lead of Northbound Studio 北漂映像. His work has taken him from Chiayi to Taipei, Beijing, London and Los Angeles. For commercials, branded films, corporate content and documentaries, Northbound brings together directors, producers, cinematographers and local crews across China and Asia, from early creative conversations and cross-cultural coordination through production and delivery.
